Ubersuggest vs SemChat: two free plans, two ways to work

Ubersuggest vs SemChat, the short answer: both have a free plan, but they count differently. Ubersuggest Free gives you 3 searches a day with no time limit. SemChat Free gives you every feature, but one full audit of my site used the whole month's quota. Pick Ubersuggest for rank tracking and a lifetime option; pick SemChat if you want to ask in a sentence and get an action plan back.

By Jérémy Santos Updated on 30 October 2026

This page is part of the guide: Ubersuggest alternatives

Verdict

Ubersuggest is a classic SEO suite: keyword research, site audits, rank tracking, backlinks from Moz data and AI visibility in ChatGPT and Gemini, with a free plan of 3 searches a day and a lifetime option from $290. SemChat is an assistant you talk to. I tested it on my own site on 29 October 2026: one sentence, an action plan by priority in about 3 minutes, and the whole Free quota for the month gone. Want reports and tracking? Ubersuggest. Want answers and a plan without learning a dashboard? SemChat.

Choose Ubersuggest if

  • You want to track your Google rankings: 125 keywords per project on Individual, a feature SemChat's product pages don't mention.
  • You'd rather pay once: lifetime access from $290 for Individual, with AI features cut down to prompts on demand.
  • You want to track your visibility in ChatGPT and Gemini today, on a paid plan.
  • You want a free Chrome extension for Google, YouTube and Amazon (40 searches a day on a free account).

Choose SemChat if

  • You want to type one sentence and get a prioritised action plan, on the Free plan, with no credit card.
  • You want a lower monthly entry: SemChat Starter is €20 a month; Ubersuggest Individual is $29 in its US-dollar price list.
  • You want to plug in Bing Webmaster Tools, Webflow, Slack, Notion or any MCP server (connectors listed in the app, not tested).
  • Your site targets France: SemChat uses Haloscan's data there, a tool from the same publisher.

What we compare, and who this comparison is for

This page is for you if you run a small business or a solo site and you’re weighing two free plans before you pay for either.

I’m Jérémy Santos. I tested SemChat on a real account, my own, on 29 October 2026. It’s the only tool on this page I tested that way. Ubersuggest is described from its official pages and help articles, each with the date I read it.

SemChat links on this page are affiliate links: if you subscribe through them, this site earns a commission at no extra cost to you. Ubersuggest links are plain links. Its affiliate programme says: “At the moment, the Ubersuggest affiliate programme isn’t active” (help article updated 5 May 2026).

My full test is in the SemChat review. Here, the question is narrower: Ubersuggest vs SemChat, which free plan takes you further, and what you pay once you outgrow it.

What is Ubersuggest, and who is behind it?

Ubersuggest is an SEO suite with a search box at the top. Its terms say the services are “owned and operated by Neil Patel Digital, LLC” (terms updated 20 May 2024). The company’s privacy notice gives an address in Las Vegas, Nevada, and says NP Digital was “founded in 2016”.

Its home page presents Neil Patel as co-founder of NP Digital. It claims more than 250,000 users, a base of more than 2.2 billion keywords and 230 markets and regions (home page, read 29 October 2026, no measurement date given).

Ubersuggest vs SemChat: the Ubersuggest home page with its keyword search box and the NP Digital menu

Ubersuggest’s English home page, a tool from NP Digital. Screenshot of https://ubersuggest.com/en, taken on 30 October 2026.

Where does the data come from? Ubersuggest’s help says it “efficiently gathers data from Google’s API, with updates occurring monthly”, and that backlinks are “sourced exclusively from the MOZ API” (help article of 22 August 2025).

SemChat is an SEO assistant you talk to. You type a request in plain language; it picks the right skill, runs its tools and hands you a plan.

It’s published by ARCHI301, a French company based in Nice. The same company publishes Haloscan, a French keyword and backlink tool: both legal notices give the same company number (SemChat terms and Haloscan legal notice, read 29 October 2026). I’m saying it up front because it matters for the data.

In France, SemChat uses Haloscan’s data. Outside France, it uses a mix of keyword data providers it doesn’t name (e-mail from Adrian Delmarre of Haloscan, 29 October 2026). If your site targets the United States, keep that in mind: I haven’t measured the quality of SemChat’s US data.

Here’s what happened when I tried it. I opened a new chat and typed one sentence, in French: run an SEO audit of my site plugkit-avis.com and give me a clear action plan, by priority.

SemChat assistant picking the full SEO audit skill on its own from one sentence

SemChat picks the full SEO audit skill on its own (French interface). Screenshot of the SemChat app (my account, Free plan), 29 October 2026.

It chose the full SEO audit skill by itself, crawled the site, pulled positions, backlinks and 10 competitors, and returned 8 KPIs, a 5-point diagnosis and 3 actions for the week. About 3 minutes from my sentence to the plan.

Ubersuggest Free and SemChat Free side by side

Both tools let you start at zero. The catch is in how each one counts.

Ubersuggest Free SemChat Free
Price $0 €0
Credit card not mentioned for the free account (the 7-day trial needs one) “Try semchat with no credit card”
How it’s counted 3 searches or reports a day a monthly usage quota, in tokens, not published
Time limit “no time limit” renews each month
Projects or sites 1 project not stated as a number
What one full audit costs 150 pages a week 100% of the month’s quota, in my test

Sources: Ubersuggest help article updated 26 July 2025; semchat.io/en/pricing read 30 October 2026; my SemChat test of 29 October 2026.

Ubersuggest Free: a daily quota with no time limit

Ubersuggest’s free account has no end date. Its help article “Free Account: Key Features and Limits”, last updated 26 July 2025, lists what you get:

  • 3 searches or reports per day;
  • 1 project, with 25 tracked keywords, updated weekly, desktop only;
  • 1 location and 2 competitors;
  • a site audit of 150 pages per week, with no recrawl and CSV exports only;
  • 100 backlinks per site;
  • 3 keyword lists of 30 keywords;
  • an AI writer capped at 2,000 words and 5 searches a day;
  • the Chrome extension at 40 searches a day.

Ubersuggest pricing page with the Individual, Business and Enterprise plans

Ubersuggest’s pricing page, with its free plan and its paid plans, seen from France (prices in euros, lifetime tab selected). Screenshot of https://ubersuggest.com/en/pricing, taken on 30 October 2026.

One honest warning. That help article dates from July 2025, and the help center answered 403 when I tried to reread it on 30 October 2026. The limits may have moved. And a visitor who isn’t signed in sees a banner on the site audit page that reads, in its French version, that you’re using the free version “with 1 search”.

SemChat Free: every feature, but a full audit uses the whole month’s quota

SemChat’s pricing page puts it in one line: “Every feature, in every plan. Just pick your monthly usage.” The Free plan is €0: “Try semchat with no credit card” (semchat.io/en/pricing, read 30 October 2026).

So nothing is locked on Free. No feature sits behind a paywall. What you buy with money is more usage.

The fine print is the size of that usage. My one audit on 29 October 2026 used 100% of the Free plan’s monthly quota. The Usage screen split it like this: SEO tools 28.9%, documents 39.2%, site analysis 32%. The quota reset date shown was 28 November.

SemChat Usage screen showing the monthly Free plan quota completely used up

The Usage screen after the audit: the Free plan quota is used up (French interface). Screenshot of the SemChat app (my account, Free plan), 29 October 2026.

SemChat counts in tokens and doesn’t publish how many audits or searches a plan covers. My advice: keep your free audit for your main site, and ask short questions after that.

Ubersuggest and SemChat feature by feature, as of 29 October 2026

Every cell below comes from the two tools’ dated fact sheets (official pages read 29 October 2026). “Not mentioned” means I didn’t find it on the pages I read. It never means the tool can’t do it.

Feature Ubersuggest SemChat

Prioritised action plan Next Actions, ranked by impact and effort a plan by priority after an audit (tested)

The machine-built table above this article repeats the core lines straight from the same fact sheets.

Keyword research is not rank tracking

Both tools find keywords. Only one of them, on the pages I read, follows your positions over time.

Ubersuggest tracks 125 keywords per project on Individual, 150 on Business and 300 on Enterprise/Agency. Its own pages don’t agree on how often: the home page promises daily positions, the pricing page says weekly (both read 29 October 2026). The free account gets weekly updates, desktop only.

SemChat’s home page, pricing page and app don’t mention rank tracking. Its terms of 21 May 2026 do, but they describe an older service billed by the page, not today’s plans. So I treat it as not mentioned for today’s plans: don’t buy SemChat for it.

If you want to watch a keyword climb week after week, Ubersuggest is built for it.

Ubersuggest shows your link profile: links won and lost, referring domains, anchors, authority, plus a Backlink Opportunity report. The data is “sourced exclusively from the MOZ API” (help, 22 August 2025). Its home page FAQ adds that it doesn’t offer toxic-link scoring or a disavow file today. The free account sees 100 backlinks per site.

SemChat ran a backlink profile step inside my audit. On plugkit-avis.com it found 1 referring domain. Its separate link audit skill, tested on 30 October 2026, counted that link right but called it risk-free without knowing its source; the full test is on our toxic backlink checker page.

Site audits: will the plan cover your whole website?

Ubersuggest crawls 150 pages a week on the free account, then 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000 pages per project on the paid plans (pricing page). Its home page FAQ speaks of up to 150,000 on the top self-service plan, which doesn’t match the 10,000 in its price list. Ask before you buy if your site is big.

SemChat has no page limit written anywhere. It counts tokens. On my site it counted 189 indexable pages, scored the technical side 99 out of 100, and flagged 100 pages with duplicate titles. I checked one finding by hand: the missing contact page did return a 404.

Visibility in ChatGPT and Gemini: Ubersuggest and SemChat

Ubersuggest sells AI search visibility: a score, share of voice, tracked prompts with the full answer, sentiment by engine. Its home page FAQ says ChatGPT and Gemini on paid plans, plus Google AI Overviews on Enterprise.

Its pages contradict each other here. The FAQ says Perplexity and Claude aren’t tracked today, while its llms.txt file lists ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews (both read 29 October 2026). Ask support which engines your plan covers.

SemChat’s product pages don’t mention AI visibility tracking. Haloscan announced it as planned, with no date (e-mail of 29 October 2026). Its technical audit skill checks “AI extractability”, which is about your pages, not a tracker.

Point to Ubersuggest.

This is where the two tools take opposite roads.

Ubersuggest opens its data to your AI. It has an official MCP server with 42 tools in 8 categories, an official ChatGPT app and a Claude plugin with 9 skills. You sign in with OAuth; there’s no API key to paste. A free account is enough: the plan changes how much data comes back, not which tools run (MCP and Claude pages, read in French on 29 October 2026). What it doesn’t have is a public API: “Ubersuggest doesn’t have API or webhook functionality” (help, 3 October 2025).

Ubersuggest MCP page explaining how AI tools connect to Ubersuggest data

Ubersuggest’s MCP page, usable with a free account. Screenshot of https://ubersuggest.com/en/mcp, taken on 30 October 2026.

SemChat pulls your tools into its chat. Its app lists connectors for Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4, Bing Webmaster Tools, Yandex Metrica, WordPress, Webflow, Slack and Notion, plus a custom connector for any MCP server. I tested the Search Console one. The others are listed, not tested by me. It also has an API tab in the app, with 18 routes mapped, but no public documentation.

Want Ubersuggest’s data inside Claude or ChatGPT? Ubersuggest. Want one chat that reads your Bing and Search Console data and posts to Slack? SemChat, once you’ve checked those connectors yourself.

Chatting with your data: Ubersuggest’s paid AI Chat or SemChat’s built-in assistant

Ubersuggest added a chat on top of its reports. Its page says it plainly: “Stop Clicking Through Reports. Just Ask.” It runs on “37+ SEO tools behind it”, and warns: “AI responses can be inaccurate. Verify numbers before acting on them.”

Ubersuggest AI Chat page where you ask questions about your SEO data

The page of Ubersuggest’s AI Chat, listed with the paid plans. Screenshot of https://ubersuggest.com/en/ai-chat-landing, taken on 30 October 2026.

On the pricing page, AI Chat is ticked for Individual, Business and Enterprise/Agency. Whether a free account gets it isn’t stated on the pages I read. The page also says the rollout to all users is still in progress.

SemChat has no other way in. The chat is the product, on every plan, Free included. That’s the real fork in the road: Ubersuggest is a dashboard you can now talk to; SemChat is a conversation that builds documents and charts when it needs them.

Both warn you, in their way, to check the numbers. In my SemChat tests, some search volumes were far from Google Ads figures, in both directions. Treat any AI answer as a lead to check, whichever tool gives it.

Ubersuggest vs SemChat pricing

Ubersuggest’s plain-text price file says “prices below are in US Dollars (USD)” (ubersuggest.com/pricing.md, read 30 October 2026). The same file warns that prices are localised by region. From France, the live page showed the same numbers in euros.

Data missing: the exact price a US visitor sees on the live pricing page (planned source: ubersuggest.com/en/pricing reread from the United States before publication).

Plan Monthly Yearly Lifetime
Ubersuggest Free $0 $0 none
Ubersuggest Individual $29 $192 $290
Ubersuggest Business $49 $326 $490
Ubersuggest Enterprise/Agency $99 $657 $990
SemChat Free €0 €0 none
SemChat Starter €20 €192 (€16 a month) none
SemChat Pro 5x €100 €960 (€80 a month) none
SemChat Pro 20x €200 €1,920 (€160 a month) none

Sources: ubersuggest.com/pricing.md, read 30 October 2026; SemChat pricing page, read 29 October 2026.

SemChat prices are in euros on every language version of its site. They read as excluding tax: my first Starter invoice was €24.00 including French VAT, for €20 shown. Ubersuggest’s page doesn’t say whether tax is included, and its terms put taxes on the customer.

A coincidence worth knowing: on yearly billing, Ubersuggest Individual and SemChat Starter both come to 192 a year, in dollars for one and euros for the other.

SemChat pricing page with the Free plan at no cost and the paid plans

SemChat’s pricing page: the Free plan at €0, then Starter at €20 a month. Screenshot of semchat.io/en/pricing, taken on 30 October 2026.

The plan-by-plan details live on two pages: Ubersuggest pricing and SemChat pricing.

Ubersuggest’s lifetime deal: what it includes and what it does not

Pay once, $290 for Individual, and skip the monthly bill. That’s the pitch. The English pricing page shouts it in a banner: “Save 90% off with lifetime access. Offer ends soon!” with a countdown (screenshot of 30 October 2026).

What changes on lifetime, per pricing.md: AI is “AI prompts on demand only”, 10 prompt ideas per search instead of 25, and 200 credits a month instead of 250 on Individual. AI visibility comes in a basic version, and the extra “Lifetime AI” option is billed every month (help, 23 January 2026).

The payment is final and non-refundable (pricing FAQ). And “lifetime” has three definitions in Ubersuggest’s own texts: “for as long as neilpatel.com/ubersuggest exists, at the discretion of Neil Patel Digital” (terms), “access for 50 years” (help, 1 August 2025) and “permanent access” (help, 2 September 2026).

The maths is simple: $290 is ten months of Individual at $29. If you’ll still use it in a year, it pays off. If you’re not sure, the monthly plan’s free trial tells you first.

Trials, refunds and cancellation on both sides

Ubersuggest gives a 7-day free trial on monthly plans only, once per account. Its home page FAQ says a card is needed to start. If you don’t cancel before the end, the subscription starts and the first month is billed. After that: “Fees are non-refundable” (refund policy). EU customers keep a legal 14-day right to cancel, per the terms. There’s no trial on yearly or lifetime.

SemChat has no time-limited trial on the pages I read. The Free plan plays that role, with no card. Its terms of 21 May 2026 mention a 30-day money-back guarantee for new subscribers, but those same terms describe an older rank-tracking service. Until SemChat confirms it, I don’t count on that guarantee, and neither should you.

Ubersuggest’s student and nonprofit discount, and the SemChat promo code

Ubersuggest gives 20% off monthly plans to students (for 12 months) and to nonprofits, on proof sent to support, not combinable with other offers (help, 20 February 2026). An older help article says “there are no special rates or discount codes available” (1 August 2025). The newer one wins, but ask support.

SemChat has no code to type. If you sign up through my link and subscribe within 2 weeks of signing up, you get 10% off for life (e-mail from Adrian Delmarre, Haloscan, 29 October 2026). Which billing options it covers isn’t confirmed yet. The details are on the SemChat promo code page.

Which one is easier to learn for a small business?

Ubersuggest’s home page FAQ asks whether you need SEO experience to get value from it, and answers no. And its Next Actions list does sort your to-dos by impact and effort. Still, you work in reports: keyword overview, site audit, backlinks, each one counting against your daily limit.

SemChat removes the reports from your side of the table. You ask; it decides which tools to run. My audit came back in French, in plain words, with three actions for the week. The flip side: you see less of the raw data unless you click “see details” under each step, which opens the table behind it with a CSV export.

If you like to explore, Ubersuggest rewards curiosity. If you’d rather be told what to fix first, SemChat is the shorter road. Either way, check the numbers before you act.

Where Ubersuggest and SemChat each win

Ubersuggest wins on:

  • rank tracking, 125 to 300 keywords per project;
  • AI visibility in ChatGPT and Gemini on paid plans;
  • a lifetime option from $290;
  • a free Chrome extension and a WordPress plugin that applies AI fixes to titles, meta descriptions and H1s;
  • an official MCP server you can use with a free account;
  • local rankings on a Google Maps grid of up to 81 points.

SemChat wins on:

  • a chat on every plan, Free included, with no credit card;
  • a lower monthly entry, €20;
  • connectors for Bing, Webflow, Slack, Notion and any MCP server;
  • Haloscan data for sites that target France;
  • a French publisher and hosting in France.

For everything the free account covers, read our guide to Ubersuggest free, and the head-to-head SemChat vs Haloscan. If you’re also weighing Semrush, there’s a Semrush vs SemChat duel too.

A quick buying checklist

Before you pay for either, run through these five questions:

  1. Do you need to track positions every week? Yes: Ubersuggest. SemChat doesn’t mention it.
  2. Do you want to pay once? Ubersuggest lifetime, $290, non-refundable, AI on demand only.
  3. Do you want a plan more than a report? SemChat: one sentence, a prioritised plan.
  4. Is your market France? SemChat runs on Haloscan data there. For the US, test both on your own site.
  5. How big is your site? Check the audit limit on Ubersuggest (150 pages a week free). On SemChat, one full audit filled the Free month for me.

My take on Ubersuggest vs SemChat: start both for free on the same site, the same week. Ubersuggest’s daily quota lets you poke around a little each day. SemChat’s monthly quota gives you one real audit. Keep the one whose answer you actually used.

Frequently asked questions

How do you use Google Keyword Planner next to Ubersuggest or SemChat?

Use it as a second opinion on volumes. Google's help says to “Go to Keyword planner within the Tools menu” of Google Ads, and that you must enter billing information to access basic features like “Get ideas for new keywords” (support.google.com, answer 7337243, read 30 October 2026). Then compare its ranges with the volumes Ubersuggest or SemChat give you before you pick a keyword.

Can Google Keyword Planner stand in for Ubersuggest's free plan?

Only in part. Keyword Planner is built into Google Ads and asks for billing details before its basic features, according to Google's help read 30 October 2026. Ubersuggest Free adds a weekly site audit of 150 pages, 25 tracked keywords and 100 backlinks per site (help article updated 26 July 2025). The Keyword Planner help page I read doesn't mention audits or rank tracking.

Is Ubersuggest better than SemChat?

For tracking, yes: Ubersuggest follows your Google positions and your visibility in ChatGPT and Gemini on its paid plans, which SemChat's product pages don't mention. For getting a plan without learning reports, SemChat did the job in my test of 29 October 2026. They solve different problems.

Does SemChat have a free plan?

Yes: Free at €0, “Try semchat with no credit card”, every feature, light monthly usage (semchat.io/en/pricing, read 30 October 2026). In my test, one full SEO audit used 100% of that monthly quota. It resets each month.

Can you chat with Ubersuggest on the free plan?

Its AI Chat is ticked for the three paid plans on the pricing page; the pages I read don't say whether a free account gets it. But Ubersuggest's MCP server and ChatGPT app work with a free account, so you can query its data from Claude or ChatGPT, within the same daily limits.

Who owns Ubersuggest and SemChat?

Ubersuggest is “owned and operated by Neil Patel Digital, LLC” (terms updated 20 May 2024), in Las Vegas. SemChat belongs to ARCHI301, a French company in Nice, which also publishes Haloscan (SemChat terms and Haloscan legal notice, read 29 October 2026).
