SE Ranking alternatives: simpler tools for a single site
The right SE Ranking alternative depends on your profile. You manage clients: stay on SE Ranking, it's built for you. You run one site and have no time to learn a tool: SemChat answers in a chat, from a Free plan at €0. You want a lasting free plan with dashboards: Ubersuggest or Seobility. You want a suite at the same level: Semrush or Ahrefs. Facts read on October 29, 2026.
This page is part of the guide: best free SEO tools
Looking for an SE Ranking alternative because the tool feels too big, too expensive or too technical for your site? Start with one question: how many sites do you manage? SE Ranking says it’s “built for agencies and in-house marketing teams” (FAQ read on October 29, 2026). If that’s you, it’s probably already the right tool. If you run a single site, simpler options exist. We ranked them from their dated fact sheets, without making up a single number.

How we built this list
Every fact about a tool comes from its own official pages (pricing page, FAQ, help center, terms), read on October 29, 2026 and stored in a dated fact sheet. We tested SemChat on a real site; we didn’t test the others. Tools we have no fact sheet for aren’t ranked here. One disclosure: the only affiliate links on this site point to SemChat and Haloscan, never to SE Ranking, Semrush, Ahrefs, Ubersuggest or Seobility.
Seranking alternative, SE Ranking alternative: one tool, two spellings
You’ll see the name written both ways: “SE Ranking” and “Seranking”, after its domain, seranking.com. It’s the same tool, sold by SER Acquisition Inc., a Delaware company. Whichever spelling you searched for, the alternatives below are the same.
SE Ranking alternatives compared, as of October 29, 2026
Each cell comes from the tool’s dated fact sheet. When a feature isn’t described on the pages we read, we write “not documented”, not “missing”.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| SE Ranking | No | 14 days, no card | No; through an outside assistant on MCP | Daily |

Why look beyond SE Ranking
No permanent free plan, only a trial with no card
SE Ranking’s FAQ is clear: “There’s no permanent free plan, but you can evaluate the platform with a free 14-day trial (no card required).” After that, Core costs $129 a month, or $103.20 a month billed annually and paid up front, according to the same FAQ. Payments are non-refundable, except when the service wasn’t delivered as promised. Every plan and add-on is on our SE Ranking pricing page.

A tool for agencies and marketing teams, sold in projects and seats
The home page says “Trusted by 40,000+ agencies”, and the plans are counted in projects, seats and API credits. Core gives 10 projects, 1 manager seat, 2,000 keywords tracked a day and 250,000 audit pages a month.

To be fair, SE Ranking also has a page for small and mid-sized businesses that promises “no technical experience needed”. But no plan is sized for one site: for yours, you pay for Core and its agency capacity. Data missing: the pricing page as a US visitor sees it (planned source: the pricing page read from the United States).
No built-in assistant: your questions go through an outside chatbot
The pages we read describe no chat inside the platform. To talk to your data in plain English, you connect an outside assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to SE Ranking’s MCP server, a standard connector that lets an AI assistant read a tool’s data. Each question uses API credits from your plan: 25,000 a month on Core. The only built-in “Ask AI” sits in the AI Writer, for writing, in English only.

Where SE Ranking genuinely wins, and who should stay
Daily rank tracking, country databases and local marketing
Before you leave, know what you’d give up. SE Ranking tracks the top 100 every day on Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, desktop and mobile, and also shows your positions in AI Overviews and ChatGPT. Its data covers 188 country databases. Core includes local marketing (3 locations, listings, reviews, Google Business Profile posts), AI visibility tracking, a site audit of 250,000 pages a month, the API and an official MCP server.
What SE Ranking includes that costs more elsewhere
Two things stand out when you set SE Ranking next to the alternatives:
- The MCP server is in every plan. At Semrush, MCP access shows from Starter (€190 a month read from France); at Ahrefs, from Lite (€119); at Seobility, from Premium, in beta. Only Ubersuggest matches it, with an MCP server that works on a free account.
- A task list is built in. Its SEO Task Manager turns audit findings into tasks sorted by priority. Ubersuggest has a similar Next Actions list; Seobility’s audit ranks issues by priority too.
If you manage clients, need white-label reports, or check hundreds of keywords every morning, stay. Few tools on this list do all of that at Core’s price. The ones that come closest are the big suites below.
SE Ranking vs Semrush and Ahrefs: the big suites
Semrush: worldwide databases and add-on toolkits
Semrush covers 142 geographic databases and tracks rankings daily from its SEO plan. Read from France, that plan costs €134 a month (€112.52 billed annually); its pricing page code lists $139.95. Toolkits for AI visibility, local and content are billed on top. Its Free plan needs no card and gives 1 demo project and 10 reports a day; its paid trial lasts 7 days and asks for a card.
Like SE Ranking, Semrush describes no built-in chat: you talk to its data through ChatGPT or Claude via its MCP, shown from the Starter plan. Two more facts worth knowing: Semrush has been owned by Adobe since April 28, 2026, and its refunds are limited to 7 days on a first annual plan paid by card; monthly plans aren’t refunded. More options in our Semrush alternative guide.
Ahrefs: the link specialist, with weekly rank updates
Ahrefs claims 35 trillion external backlinks in its history, with new data every 15 to 30 minutes. Its free account is real, but for your own verified sites only: “you can’t research competitors’ sites without paying”. There’s no trial. Starter costs $29 a month on its FAQ (€27 read from France). Its built-in assistant, Ask Ahrefs, needs at least Lite (€119 a month read from France) and is in beta, and its rank tracking updates weekly. Its FAQ is candid about the learning curve: “Core features click within a few weeks, but advanced workflows take a few months of consistent use.” A free browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Safari is a nice extra. Our Ahrefs alternative page goes further.
Free SEO tools like Semrush and SE Ranking
Ubersuggest, Semrush Free and Ahrefs Free: what stays free
Ubersuggest keeps a free plan with no time limit. It’s narrow: 3 searches or reports a day, 1 project, 25 tracked keywords updated weekly, and a 150-page audit per week (help article updated July 26, 2025). Individual, the first paid plan, costs €29 a month read from France, or €192 a year. Its 7-day trial requires a card. Its in-app AI Chat is still rolling out, and the page warns that AI answers can be inaccurate. Good points for a beginner: a Next Actions list ranked by impact and effort, a free Chrome extension, and an official MCP server that works even with a free account: its Claude page says your plan changes how much data comes back, not which tools run. Limits: no white-label reporting, data refreshed monthly according to its help center, and no public API. More in our Ubersuggest alternatives guide.
Seobility offers a Basic plan that is “Free forever”, with no credit card: 1 project, 100 pages per crawl (one crawl every 7 days, started by hand), and 10 keywords updated weekly. Premium costs €59.90 a month before VAT since September 18, 2026. Its audit lists your site’s issues by priority, which helps when you’re starting out. Paid plans go much further: a crawl of 25,000 pages from Premium, daily desktop rank tracking in 90+ countries down to the city, tracking of Google’s AI Overviews with the sources cited, backlink monitoring, and uptime checks every 3 minutes from Premium. Its interface is in English, Spanish and German, and no built-in chat is mentioned; its MCP server, in beta, needs a paid plan.
Semrush Free gives 1 demo project and 10 reports a day across its main tools. Ahrefs Free shows your own site’s data once you verify it.
SE Ranking’s own free tools, with no account
You may not need any subscription for a first check. SE Ranking itself lets you “use several free tools on the website without an account” (FAQ): Speed Checker, Mobile-Friendly Test, Redirect Checker, Word Counter, and title and meta description generators. It also offers free daily checks with its Google Rank Checker and Website Traffic Checker. Seobility has 9 free tools with no sign-up, including its one-page SEO Checker, which reviews more than 200 factors.
These tools answer one question about one page. They don’t follow your site over time or tell you where to start. For that, you need a free plan with a project, or an assistant that reads the whole site. Our list of the best free SEO tools goes through more options.

What each SE Ranking alternative costs over a year
Monthly prices hide the real commitment. Here’s the yearly cost of each entry plan, from official prices read on October 29, 2026 (our math where the page shows only a monthly price). Currencies differ because the pages do; we didn’t convert them.
| Entry plan | Billed yearly | Note |
|---|---|---|
| SE Ranking Core | $1,238.40 ($103.20 × 12) | Paid up front, non-refundable |
| Semrush SEO plan | €1,350.24 (€112.52 × 12, read from France) | Taxes on top |
| Seobility Premium | €575.04 before VAT | Shown as a yearly total |
| Ubersuggest Individual | €192 (read from France) | 7-day trial on monthly plans only |
| Ahrefs Starter | $348 ($29 × 12) | Renewed monthly, no yearly option for Starter |
| SemChat Starter | €192 (€16 × 12) | VAT on top for European buyers |
The free plans cost nothing, of course: SemChat Free, Ubersuggest’s free plan, Seobility Basic, Semrush Free and Ahrefs Free for your own sites.
Five questions to ask before you choose
- How many sites do you manage? One site rarely needs 10 projects and several seats.
- Do you want dashboards, or answers? Dashboards take time to learn; a chat asks less of you but shows you less at a glance.
- Do you check rankings every day? If yes, keep a tool that documents daily tracking: SE Ranking, Semrush, or Seobility’s paid plans.
- How much do you want to pay before you know the tool helps? A lasting free plan, or a trial with no card, keeps the risk low. Trials that ask for a card charge you unless you cancel in time.
- Which countries matter to you? SemChat’s data outside France comes from providers it doesn’t name; SE Ranking and Semrush publish their database coverage.
How to switch from SE Ranking without losing your work
SE Ranking’s payments are non-refundable, so the timing matters. A few steps, based on what its pages describe:
- Export before you leave. Core allows exports of up to 50,000 rows, Growth 100,000. Save your tracked keywords, audit results and backlink lists while your plan is active. Core keeps 6 months of history; plan your export accordingly.
- Time it with your renewal. If you paid for a year up front, use the tool until the end of the period rather than expecting money back.
- Run both for a few weeks. Start the new tool on its free plan or trial while SE Ranking still runs, and compare what each one tells you about your site.
- Rebuild your reports. If you used SE Ranking’s Looker Studio connector, check whether your new tool offers one; among the alternatives here, Semrush and Ahrefs mention Data Studio connectors on some plans.
SemChat: one website, run by chat
SemChat doesn’t show you a dashboard to learn. You type what you want, it picks the right tool on its own, pulls the data and returns an action plan.
Said up front: SemChat has the same publisher as Haloscan, ARCHI301, a company in Nice, France. For France, it uses Haloscan’s data; outside France, including the United States, a mix of providers it doesn’t name.
On October 29, 2026, we typed a single sentence asking for a full SEO audit of one of our sites and a clear action plan by priority. About 3 minutes later, we had this:

The audit correctly flagged a contact page returning a 404 error, which we checked. It also overstated an issue with multilingual titles: AI advice is worth double-checking. The full story is in our SemChat review.
SemChat’s Free plan and its Starter plan at €20 a month
“Every feature, in every plan. Just pick your monthly usage.” The Free plan is €0, “Try semchat with no credit card”. Starter costs €20 a month, or €16 billed yearly (€192 a year), then Pro 5x at €100 and Pro 20x at €200. European buyers pay VAT on top. Sign up through our link and subscribe within 2 weeks: 10% off for life. Every plan is on our SemChat pricing page.

The honest limit, measured: our single full audit used 100% of the Free plan’s monthly quota. For several audits a month, you need Starter or more. Usage is counted in tokens, a unit of AI work, and SemChat doesn’t publish how many audits a plan buys.
Rank tracking: not documented at SemChat, so check before you switch
Rank tracking appears neither on SemChat’s home page, nor on its pricing page, nor in the app as of October 29, 2026. AI search visibility is announced as planned, with no date. If you track your keywords every day with SE Ranking, check this before you change tools. The point-by-point duel is in our SE Ranking vs SemChat comparison.
To choose your SE Ranking alternative, go back to the table at the top: your profile matters more than the feature list. Agencies stay on SE Ranking; one site run by one person can start free, with a chat or a dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to SE Ranking?
Yes, several, with limits. SemChat has a Free plan at €0 with no card and every feature, on light usage (one full audit used the whole monthly quota in our October 29, 2026 test). Ubersuggest keeps a free plan with no time limit at 3 searches a day. Seobility's Basic plan is "Free forever" for 1 project. Semrush Free gives 10 reports a day, and Ahrefs is free for your own verified sites. SE Ranking itself only offers a 14-day trial.
Is SE Ranking better than Semrush?
Neither is better for everyone. SE Ranking is cheaper at entry ($129 a month for Core on its FAQ, against $139.95 for Semrush's SEO plan in its pricing page code) and tracks more keywords daily at that level: 2,000 against 500. Semrush covers more add-on toolkits and offers a Free plan. We tested neither.
Is SE Ranking a good fit for one small website?
It can work, but it's sized for more. Its plans are counted in projects, seats and API credits, and Core includes 10 projects. SE Ranking does have a page for small businesses promising "no technical experience needed". If you run one site and want to know what to fix this week, a simpler tool may cost less and ask less of you.
Should you switch from SE Ranking to Semrush?
Only if you need what Semrush adds: its add-on toolkits, its Free plan for light use, or its specific databases. If daily rank tracking at a lower entry price is what you value, SE Ranking keeps the edge. Test Semrush's Free plan before deciding: its paid trial asks for a card.
